Number of seats per electoral district: Full details

The number of seats allocated to each Sri Lanka's electoral district is determined by the population. The number of seats allocated to each district is reviewed and revised every ten years through the data that collected during the national census. The most recent review took place in 2017, and resulting in the current allocation of seats in the Sri Lankan parliament.

There are currently 22 electoral districts in Sri Lanka. Each electoral district has different number of seats in the parliament. The total number of seats in the parliament is 225. Each electoral district is represented by Member of Parliaments (MPs).

The largest electoral district in Sri Lanka is Colombo. It is also the most populated district in the country. Colombo is allocated 19 seats in the parliament, and making it the district with the highest number of MPs. Other districts with a high number of seats include Gampaha (18 seats) and Kandy (12 seats). Trincomalee district has the smallest number of seats, and only four seats in the parliament.

The allocation of seats in the parliament plays a crucial role in political landscape. It determines the power balance between different districts and political parties. Elections are held every five years. The majority number of seats won by the political party(s) could form a government and implement their policies.
