Lanka Ads is an online advertisement website platform for spa, massage and adult related activities. The purpose of the website was to promote Sri Lankan advertisement such as ikman. However, it got much attraction on personal pleasure related need than common goal. The attraction gradually transforms the website into fully personal advertisement and later it became X grade site. Nowadays, the term “Lanka Ads” gives different meaning.
The transformation brought many visitors and reports say that the website started to earn about minimum 1 million rupees per month. The report could be right since each ad should pay 500/- and there were more than 3,000 ads per month (3,000 x 500/- = 1,500,000/-).
The above analysis could be phase one. In mid of 2021, the website’s ownership was exposed and it stopped all advertisements. It resulted to grow similar sites while spa related Lanka Ads. Again, the site gets another form or phase II under new ownership. The new site’s interface is totally new, and missed the old “glory”. When the site was on peek, it touched Alexa global rank about 68,000 and Sri Lankan rank about 150.
Impact of Sri Lanka Personal Ads
The rise of personal and spa related ads on Lanka Ads style websites have raised concerns in Sri Lanka. These ads feature explicit content, and they can contribute to the sexualization.
These ads can pose a threat to public and safety as they operate without proper licensing or regulation. These establishments may offer sexual services under the guise of wellness treatments, which can lead to the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and other health risks.
Personal ads has a significant impact on Sri Lankan society, particularly on young people who are exposed to these ads on social media and other online platforms. These ads can contribute to the normalization of sexual exploitation and harassment.
Moreover, the proliferation of such ads can lead to a decline in moral and ethical values, as they promote behaviors and practices that are not consistent with the principles of decency and respect. This can have a negative impact on the social fabric of Sri Lanka and undermine the country's traditional values and customs.
Sri Lanka law & enforcement and cyber branch seem silent except an action in 2021.
